L-House is a private residence designed to provide bright and uncluttered spaces for a young family. With an emphasis on simple shapes and minimal design, the residence exudes a sense of calm and comfort that seamlessly flows from the exterior to the interior. This home caters to the dynamic needs of family life while maintaining an airy and sophisticated ambiance.

The design focuses on creating a harmonious blend of form and function. The main residence is characterized by a distinctive white stripe that runs through the structure, creating a visual highlight. At the northwest part of the ground floor, a guesthouse is set back, giving the upper volume a sense of lightness and floating. This white stripe fades to a sharp peak at the north part of the top floor, adding a dynamic element to the overall design. Located in Crete, benefits from the region’s mild winters and hot summers. The design takes full advantage of the Cretan climate, with outdoor spaces that can be used throughout most of the year. Two verandas were created to maximize outdoor living: one sheltered veranda on the ground floor between the guesthouse and the main residence, providing privacy and protection from the summer sun, and another on the upper floor for direct access from the bedrooms.

It employs a minimalist aesthetic with a focus on simple, clean lines. The use of white surfaces, complemented by natural materials, enhances the feeling of brightness and spaciousness. The architecture serves as a backdrop for the family’s interaction with the garden, ensuring that the outdoor spaces are an integral part of the living experience.

The interior features an open-plan layout on the ground floor, encompassing the kitchen, living, and dining areas. This design fosters a sense of connectedness and fluidity, making it ideal for family interactions. The private zone, located on the first floor, ensures that each bedroom has access to a balcony, allowing for private outdoor space. Additionally, the parents’ office has a private terrace, providing a space for autonomy and focus. A key element of L-House is its functionality tailored to family life. The half-sunken basement garage is designed to free up space on the ground floor, enhancing the floating appearance of the main volume. This strategic design decision not only maximizes usable space but also contributes to the overall aesthetic of lightness and elevation.

This House is a testament to modern minimalist design, where simplicity and functionality converge to create a sophisticated family home. With its bright and uncluttered spaces, seamless indoor-outdoor integration, and thoughtful attention to the needs of a young family, offers a serene and elegant living environment. The architectural design, influenced by the Cretan climate and the desire for a harmonious relationship with nature, ensures that this residence is both a practical and beautiful sanctuary for its inhabitants.
