Situated near the city of Heraklion and in close proximity to the sea, this new five-star hotel comprises 100 rooms and is designed for year-round accommodation. The goal was to combine the feeling of a resort hotel with a more compact structure to ensure guests are protected from the weather during the winter months. The hotel is developed across three levels: the ground floor, the first floor, and an additional floor that utilizes the natural slope of the lot on the north side. The design emphasizes creating a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces, offering an intermediate experiential level that transitions from the strict building block to the open outdoor areas. The movement axes within the complex are covered with pergolas that intersect along the oblong volumes, providing visitors with various viewpoints for better orientation. These pergolas create shaded pathways that protect guests from the summer sun and adverse winter weather, ensuring comfort throughout the year. The main design philosophy centers on creating transition spaces that offer a smooth flow from open to closed areas

These intermediate spaces act as reference points, leading guests to the main square, which houses the main swimming pool and the hotel’s common areas. This layout promotes a sense of community while also providing areas for relaxation and social interaction. The facades of the hotel complex are enhanced with opening wooden panels that provide guests with privacy and protection from the elements. These panels can be adjusted to shield against the strong summer sun and intense weather phenomena during winter, ensuring a comfortable and adaptable environment for all seasons.
The hotel successfully blends the essence of a resort with the practicality of a compact, weather-resistant structure. By utilizing transition spaces, intersecting pergolas, and adaptable wooden panels, the design ensures a harmonious balance between indoor comfort and outdoor beauty. This architectural approach not only respects the natural surroundings but also enhances the guest experience, making it an inviting destination throughout the year.
