Situated in the heart of Heraklion, the Office Building stands as a testament to modern architectural innovation, blending functionality with bioclimatic design principles to create a dynamic and sustainable workspace. The architects drew inspiration from the geometric form of a prism while conceptualizing the Office Building. This raw, chiseled volume is characterized by its multiple elevations and an inner courtyard, which not only enhances aesthetic appeal but also promotes natural light penetration and ventilation throughout the complex. The primary materials chosen—concrete, glass, and metal—are integral to the building’s modern and robust appearance.
Beyond aesthetics, these materials are selected for their durability and their role in achieving low energy consumption, aligning with bioclimatic design principles. The integration of passive solar design and energy-efficient systems ensures optimal thermal comfort and reduces environmental impact. The Office Building complex comprises two main structures—Building A and Building B—connected by a spacious underground basement. Building B, organized in an L-shaped plan, features four floors accommodating large office spaces
Each wing within Building B is equipped with its own staircase and elevator, offering flexibility for independent use of floors or entire wings. Building A, spanning three floors, includes a ground-floor restaurant and cafe that utilize the courtyard and the planted roof of the basement, fostering a harmonious blend of indoor and outdoor environments. The upper floors of Building A house additional office spaces, each accessible via private entrances and elevators, ensuring privacy and convenience. The interior design of the Office Building prioritizes occupant comfort and productivity. Open-space layouts, abundant natural light, and energy-efficient strategies create an inviting and conducive environment for creative work. The incorporation of sunny, well-ventilated spaces contributes to a positive work atmosphere, promoting employee well-being and productivity. The surrounding area of the building is landscaped with materials that enhance water absorbency and promote greenery, contributing to a cooler and more comfortable microclimate. Clearly marked entrances and intuitive navigation encourage ease of movement both within and around the building, fostering a welcoming environment for employees and visitors alike.
The building at Heraklion exemplifies a harmonious integration of architectural vision, sustainable design, and functional efficiency. From its geometrically inspired form to its thoughtful interior spaces and environmentally conscious surroundings, the building not only meets contemporary business needs but also establishes itself as a beacon of modern urban development in Heraklion.
