Office Building at Heraklion
While working on the architectural concept, the architects were inspired by the shape of “prism”. The building was considered as a raw volume that is “chiseled” from various cuts (on all three axes), resulting in having many elevations and a creation of an inner courtyard.
The materials selected were in their primary form: concrete, glass and metal combined in a way that marks a modern and robust building. At the same time, the architects’ experience in bioclimatic design, created a building that has low energy consumption.
The building complex consists of two main buildings (A and B) and a large basement that is an underground connection of them.
Building B has four floors and is organized in an L-shape plan. It is an office building that consists of two wings, connected by the main entrance area (foyer) with a through entrance and the possibility of serving as a reception. The east wing consists of four floors plus an additional floor with attics and is divided into large offices. It has its own staircase and elevator so that it can be used independently from the rest of the complex as a whole or as each floor separately. The east wing of Building B has three floors and an additional floor with a loft and also has its own staircase and elevator with the ability to function independently.
Building A is three-storey, consists a ground floor restaurant and cafe, which utilize the courtyard and the planted roof of the basement. Building A also has an office floor and a loft with a private entrance and elevator.
The interior design of the office building complex, has taken seriously the comfortable use of the offices by their occupants, the achievement of conditions for creative work with open-space, sunny and energy-efficient spaces.
The surrounding area is covered with materials that help water absorbency and planting in order to achieve a cool and comfortable microclimate. The complex entrances are adequately signaled, encouraging the employee and the passer-by to navigate inside and outside the building.
