New Resort Hotel in Crete

This project concerns the creation of a new five-star resort hotel with 180 rooms.

The main idea was to create neighborhoods arranged around swim-up pools with a slope reminiscent of a natural beach. Oblique plaster and wooden partitions separate the outdoor space of each room, offering privacy and protection from the strong winds of the area. In these oblique plaster partitions as well as in other solid volumes one will notice recesses, a reference to storage niches that characterize the traditional architecture.

The back elevation of the rooms from where the entrance is located, is much more compact, with a combination of stone and off- white volumes. A pergola system protects the front elevation that has larger openings, from the strong summer sun.

Different types of room pilots were studied and the main focus of the design was to create a new experience for the visitors. Wood, stone and plaster in off-white shades, are a reference to the traditional Cretan architecture, which is reinterpreted through more fluid and plastic forms.
