Lavris Hotel 5*
Lavris Hotel is located in a 4700 sq.m olive grove. The project involves the construction of a new wing of 32 rooms for the bigger hotel complex.
The main objective was to create a simple architectural form that will work as a module for additional wings in the future. A white two story L shaped volume wraps around a dark midnight pool and overlooks the lush environment of the plot.
The key design element can be clearly seen in the pool’s reflections. In the calm, windless weather, the building appears to double in size as it reflects in the pool water in total symmetry. The symmetry and mirroring of the building volumes takes on a bigger role, creating illusions of infinity as it blends the real and imagined spaces.
The facades are adorned with white pvc partition panels with bubble cutouts, wooden sliding sun shades and sharp peaked sculptural roofs. The south façade features a sequence of rooms with swim up access to the pool in the ground floor and sun bathed verandas on the top floor. The building ‘opens up’ to the natural element both in layout and design. Contrarily, the north and east façade are fundamentally different, with narrow elongated openings, sail like fabric shades and large white uninterrupted volumes.
In the rooms the mosaic floor, oak panels and furniture and textured concrete walls create a warm feeling. The focal point is the contemporary barn door that slides to reveal either the glass shower or the vanity area.
Coming from the entrance in the east, the visitor is met with vegetation on the one hand and a strict two story volume that opens up to the pool. Standing in between the water and the greenery, is the reception, which is the mirror image of the pop-out volume of the main build with sharp peaked roofs and ‘bubble’ pvc partitions that unfold to completely encase the build. The visitor can choose between different sensory relaxation areas, a pergola that links to the grove or a sunken thatched cabana that sits on the level of the water.
The visitor’s perception of the water, as well as the balance between the form and its mirage, were imperative to the design, function and layout of the hotel.
