Hotel Renovation

The project involves the complete transformation of the hotel rooms of a seaside hotel. Whereas the original plan featured an enclosed bathroom and typical arrangement of the furnishings, the new design opens up the vanity area, turns the bed to the view and creates a comfortable seating area.

One of the main design elements is the abstract use of the arch, which typically holds a traditional island character, here it is simplified for a contemporary look.

The second major change is the color pallet. Stark white render, concrete texture on the floor and ceiling, light woods and ribbed glass all compliment the ‘statement’ of the room, the cobalt blue. A blue, white and black feature tile is chosen, inspired by the work of Yiannis Moralis, a Greek cubist artist.

As the visitor enters the room he is met with an open wardrobe with a staggered shelf, a tiled back and round lathing. On the other hand are separate toilet and shower stalls that ensure privacy with the use of ribbed frosted glass. The vanity is situated on the back of the headboard so that it too faces the view.

The main feature of the room is the large headboard that separates the entrance-vanity area from the bed and lounge. It is sculptural with white render and a tufted cushion in order to create the sense of a ‘hug’ towards the bed.

Lastly, the visitor can relax on a built-in concrete sofa, or work on the desk that mirrors the shape of the sofa.
