Brutalist Cretan villa

The house has been designed with the brutalism architecture principles from the 1970’s. It is comprised of detached solid volumes that create a geometric puzzle on the façade and float above a fully transparent ground floor. The materiality is inspired by the Cretan landscape, with warm gray natural stucco and ‘scratched’ concrete. An important feature of the residence is the linear pool that wraps around three sides of the building, as well as the various water features like the fountain that overflows onto a rock formation, the shallow water lily pool and the Jacuzzi on the roof garden that is surrounded by plants that hang over the west facade.

The communal spaces are located in the transparent spaces, while the master bedrooms are situated behind the blind areas of the facades in order to create the sense of privacy. Four more bedrooms are found in the lower part of the house and open up to a ‘secret garden’ that is below the level of the main garden and features a heated pool with triangular caves, hanging planters and granite steps and a slide coming from the main garden. Lastly the pergolas on the south side of the house follow a linear arrangement with curve cutouts and provide shelter from the wind for the breakfast and bbq areas.
